CYPRUS - Trekking - 7 Days program

 

7 days Program (4 – 5 hours trekking per day)

Day 1
Upon arrival at Larnaca Airport we will be greeted and taken to Agros village. Overnight in the Troodos Mountains.

Day 2 
Stavros tou Agiasmati - Panayia tou Araka
Length: 7.5 Km – Degree of difficulty: 3

The route is a nature trail in its entirety. On leaving the church of Stavros tou Agiasmati, it ascends for a while through forested area. It then goes past deserted vineyards and reenters the forest, reaching the village of Lagoudera. It then descends through the village of Lagoudera (altitude 1000 m), from where it follows existing roads to reach the church of Panagia tou Araka.
The forest vegetation throughout the route consists of Calabrian pine, the endemic golden oak and other shrubs such as eastern strawberry tree. The rock formations are exclusively diabase. The region of Madari, a proposed nature conservation area (Natura 2000) can be admired from the highest point of the route.
Points of interest along the route include the 13th century A.D. church of Panagia tou Araka (included in the UNESCO world heritage site) with its beautiful frescoes and Stavros tou Agiasmati church.

Alona “Petrou Vanezi” Trail – 1.5 km
(circular – Degree of difficulty: 3)


Alona is one of the most beautiful villages of Pitsilia region, with stone houses and rich greenery. The trail goes through dense hazelnut plantations, cherry, apple and almond trees, reaching a water stream.
A new path 1.5 km long leads through the forest to the area known as “Doxa soi o Theos” (alt.1320 m) north of the village of Kyperounta. From there, it trails along dirt tracks and paths (6 km) to the Platania Forestry Station (alt. 1000 m), 6 km from the village of Kakopetria. Most of the route passes through thick natural forest of pine (pinus brutia), often accompanied by a thick understorey of golden oak, or alternating with tall thickets of golden oak

Overnight in Troodos Mountains


Day 3 :
Doxa soi o Theos – Selladi tou Karamanli Trail – Teicsia tis Madaris –
13 km (circular – Degree of difficulty: 3)

Excellent views towards Morfou Bay Mesaoria plain and Troodos range. About half way through, the route trails through cedar forest. The trail connects with the local area trail network of Madari – Doxa si o Theos, Teichia tis Madaris, Moutti tis Choras – Selladi tou Karamanli and Selladi tou Karamanli – Kannavia.

Check out from the hotel. Possibility to stroll around the village of Agros and visit the home industries (Nikis House / Sweets and Tsolakis House / Roses products).

Transfer to Platres. Overnight in Troodos Mountains.


Day 4 / Tue.
Atalanti trail – 14 Km (circular with starting/ending point: Troodos Square - Degree of difficulty: 2)

We drive to Troodos. The path goes round Chionistra (Olympos mountain peak) at an altitude of 1700 – 1750 m passing through dense thickets of black pine and Troodos Junipers, 800 years old, is to be seen there. There are superb views in all directions to an interesting entrance to a chromium mine, out of operation since 1982. After 9 Km the trail reaches Troodos – Prodromos main road.  To carry on one must cross the road and walk for about 200 m on the Chromium housing settlements forest path towards Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis. Onwards, the trail continues in a parallel to the main road direction, ending up at Troodos square.

Kaledonia trail – 3 Km (linear with degree of difficulty: 3)
Starting from Troodos square, the trail goes downstream through dense forest vegetation, along the river Kryos Potamos, which flows all the year round. Past the scenic Kalidonia waterfalls, the trail ends at location Psilo Dendro over pano Platres.

Overnight in Troodos Mountains


Day 5 / Wed.
Psilo Dendro / Pouziaris Trail – 9 Km (Circular with degree of difficulty: 3, very demanding, due to steep uphill/downhill route)

For the first kilometer it passes through dense pine thickets (pius brutia) changing to black pine (Pinus nigra ssp. Pallasiana), after 3 km. Panoramic views.

Optional: Katarraktis Myllomeris (Waterfalls) Trail
(Linear with degree of difficulty: 3
The group can walk through the village of Platres and take the path to Millomeris Waterfalls which is found opposite the church. After the waterfalls, there is also a vehicular access to the Limassol – Platres road.

Overnight in Troodos Mountains


Day 6 / Thu.
Enetika Gefyria (Venetian Bridges) Trail - 17 Km
(Linear with degree of difficulty: 3)

The view all along the way is panoramic. Goes through dense pine forest, over Arminou dam, past Pera Vasa picnic site (a huge dry tree trunk of the Pera Vas pine exhibited here), and continues through “Saouris” farm, past the Cave of Sauris, “Mita’s” pen and near the vultures’ observation point.

Transfer to Paphos. Overnight in Paphos

 

 

 

Day 7 / Fri.
Akamas  - approximately 11 km (Adonis & Aphrodite trail)
Degree of difficulty: 3

The path goes past Pyrgos tis Rigainas (Queen’s Tower), believed to be part of a medieval monastery complex. A huge 100-year-old oak tree is located near the ruins. We have excellent viewpoints towards Cape Arnaoutis (Akamas), Polis and Paphos forest. The path passes also from the Baths of Aphrodite, where according to legend the goddess of love and beauty used to take her beauty baths in a pool of a natural grotto.

Transfer to Tochni Traditional Houses in Tochni village (Larnaca district) for overnight.


Day 8 /
After breakfast we will be transferred to Larnaca Airport for Departure.
