Day 3
“Trekking the Best of the West: The Northern Akamas Coastline & Avagas Gorge”
This day combines two completely different trekking experiences in the Paphos area: A walk along Cyprus’ most dazzling coastline and a hike through Cyprus’ most spectacular natural monument, a giant limestone canyon called “Avagas.”

We start the day with a morning boat ride from Latchi harbour to the north-western tip of Cyprus. During this 45 minute journey, we shall pass steep volcanic sea cliffs covered with dense marquis vegetation, a mixture of pine, juniper, and many wild flowers (including endemics and orchids). We will endeavour the many secluded rocky coves with extremely clear, blue waters and a variety of sea caves and offshore islands.
Our final destination (weather permitting) is the Fontana Amoroza or Platzi. Here, we depart from the boat and start trekking along the limestone coastline back to Loutra tis Aphroditis (“Baths of Aphrodite”). This may be the most impressive stretch of coastline in Cyprus, while the Akamas fauna and flora protected area has its own story to tell and its own magic.
Lunch at Latchi area.
The afternoon light will illuminate the Avagas Gorge as we trek along the streambed of this deep limestone canyon. Apart from the 300-metre long natural tunnel, where sheer walls of limestone rise some 40 metres overhead, expect to see numerous small waterfalls, myriad species of plants and flowers, a tremendous concave natural amphitheatre, and dozens of birds. Free-range goats inhabit the area, so it is often the case that the sounds of our trekking boots clambering over the rocks and boulders are accompanied by goat-bells from the cliffs above.
Return to Drouseia village.
Dinner will be enjoyed at the “Araouzos” Taverna in Kathikas village.
Overnight at Droushia Heights Hotel
Estimated Trekking Times:
Morning: 1.5 hours approx.
Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate
Afternoon: 1.5 hour approx.

Day 4
“The Essential Troodos Trekking Experience: The High Mountains and Deep Forests”
Of the many different areas and landforms that make up the island of Cyprus, none is more important than or as vast as the Troodos Mountain Range. It is the Troodos Mountains that gives the island its life’s blood, water, and its wealth of natural resources: copper and wood. Although Troodos comprises nearly one-quarter of the island’s total landmass, we have selected two of the best sections for our trekking pleasure.

Our journey today penetrates some extremely remote forest locations. Among them is the dazzling (“Koiladha ton Kedron”) Cedar Valley, where hundreds of mature Cyprus Cedar trees (“cedrus brevifolia”, an endemic species) grow tall and proud in this unique mountain refuge. Here we shall trek through the only location in the world where trees of this specific species grow. Their beauty is intoxicating and the air is full of the scent of these majestic evergreens.
Around mid-day lunch will be served aside the Kykko Monastery, which will be visited. Kykko Monastery is by far the largest and most important monastery on the island, indeed one of the most prominent monasteries in the entire eastern Orthodox world. Contained within the complex is the highly prized and most holy icon of the Panayia Kykkotissa, painted by St Luke. In the afternoon we trek through the most beautiful valley in Cyprus, the “Platys Valley” , accompanied by the sounds of running water from the adjacent Platys stream.
We complete the tour in Agros village.
Dinner and overnight will be spent at Rodon Hotel.
Estimated Trekking Times:
Morning in Cedar Valley: 1.5 hours approx.
Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate.
Afternoon: 2 hours approx..
Difficulty: Easy

Day 5
The picturesque village of Agros, will introduce us to its unique homemade products. Small privately owned home industries invite visitors to see the various processes required to manufacture chemical free delicious wine, fruit preserves, sweets and liqueurs as well as aromatic oils and perfumed candles.
Rosa Damascena, a rose bush brought to Cyprus in antiquity from Mesopotamia is extensively and exclusively cultivated at Agros. It produces a bright pink flower whose delicate petals and intoxicating smell are a source of delightful concoctions.
At Niki’s Sweets House, observe how women turn seasonal fruits into mouth-watering marmalades and jellies. From a large array of whole fruit preserves, “karydaki” (young tender walnuts) and their famous “soutzouko” made from fresh grape juice, flour and almonds are highly sought after (opportunity to be involved in preparation and sample some of the products).
In the House of Roses we will have the opportunity to see how hand made pottery for the storage of the products is made, the process of perfumed candle making and taste things such as rose aperitif, rose liqueurs, rose water and rose wine.
We will then drive in a region that produces a variety of wines but foremost the Commandaria, a unique, Cypriot, rich red wine. We will experience the essence of the Cypriot tradition of welcome & hospitality.

We reach Kalo Chorio village, global home of the famous Commandaria wine. The tour will visit the Commandaria Factory, one of the oldest co-operatives in Cyprus and watch a short film about the cultivation of vine and the production of Commandaria to be followed by Commandaria tasting.
Beautifully sheltered, Louvaras village supplies organically grown vegetables. Then step inside the cool and shaded 15PthP century Byzantine church of Agios Mamas that is decorated with frescoes of innovative and stunning Byzantine art. Warm and welcoming Mrs Koula, who owns an ‘appellation controllee’ “zivania” distillery will explain how this local alcoholic drink is distilled from the remainder of grapes after the juice is extracted to produce the Commandaria wine as her family have done for generations.
Lunch will be served in Louvaras village.
Drive to Tochni village and set up in traditional houses of the Agrotourism project
Farewell dinner at “Tochni” Tavern and overnight.

Day 6
After breakfast we will be transferred to the Airport for departure.
